Putting a spin on static in-game screenshots, this video is a 4k compilation of four parallax effect clips I created using in-game screenshots from Star Citizen Alpha 2.6. These use a technique commonly called “Parallax Scrolling” which:
“is a technique in computer graphics and web design, where background images move by the camera slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth in a 2D scene and adding to the immersion. The technique grew out of the multiplane camera technique used in traditional animation since the 1930s.”
Each scene uses anywhere from four to eight different in-game screenshots specifically taken for these parallax clips. The screenshots are then modified in post production, carefully masking out backgrounds, matching lighting and color from other shots and exporting as lossless transparent PNG files which are then imported into my video editor. The whole thing ended up being much more time consuming than I had anticipated but hopefully you like the results.
